(and Why It Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated)

When it comes to planning your pet’s photo session, one of the most common questions I get is: “What should I wear for my pet's photo session?”

The short answer? Something you feel good in.

Of course, I have a few tried-and-true tips to help you look your best next to your furry friend. But ultimately, your comfort and personality matter most—whether that means jeans and a T-shirt or going full-on matching Hawaiian shirt with your dog’s face on it (yes, that happened, and yes, it was amazing).

Here’s what I recommend when choosing your outfit:

1. Stick to Neutrals or Soft Tones

Neutral colors like beige, gray, soft blue, or olive photograph beautifully and won’t distract from your pet—who’s likely the real star of the show. Try to avoid wearing a color that’s too similar to your pet’s fur or your chosen backdrop, just to keep you both from blending in.

2. Consider the Background

If you’ve selected a backdrop color for your session, think about how your clothing will complement it. A quick rule of thumb: avoid exact color matches and aim for contrast or soft harmony. I'm always happy to help you pick!

3. Keep it Simple (But Not Boring)

Logos, busy patterns, or neon colors can steal attention from your pet’s adorable face. But don’t be afraid to bring a little flair—maybe a fun accessory or a pop of color that feels like you.

4. Prioritize Comfort

If you’re chasing a wiggly puppy or getting low to the ground with a senior dog, you’ll want to move freely. Choose clothes that make you feel relaxed and at ease—it always shows in the final photos.

5. Let Your Personality Shine

Matching bandanas? Coordinated outfits? A shirt with your dog’s face on it? We love it all. The most memorable sessions happen when you lean into your unique bond with your pet.

Bottom line: Wear something that makes you feel confident, comfortable, and connected to your pet. Whether it’s a cozy neutral or a statement tee, it’s the love between you that we’re really capturing—and that always looks good on camera.
